Favorite Classic?

Postby LauraBelle on Thu Dec 27, 2007 4:30 pm

What's your favorite classic/retro TV show? I'd have to say mine would be The Dick Van Dyke Show. Well, at least this week. I'm sure I could change my mind in a few weeks, but that's a woman's prerogative, right?

Hi LB. I can't believe I'm the first to post here. My absolute fav show of all time is Perry Mason. I've been a fan since I was a kid. This was the only show I was allowed to watch while eating supper when it was on at that time. I've been buying the dvds as they release them. Unfortunately they have been releasing 1 season a year and splitting those into 2 dvds. If they keep this up it will take 12 years as there were 12 seasons. My husband loves Andy Griffith and my son is a big fan of the original Twilight Zone. We have a New Year's eve tradition of watching the Twilight Zone marathon on tv.

LB, I also love the Dick Van Dyke show! But I would say I Love Lucy is my favorite classic show! 8)

Isn't that funny, Carol, how we connect certain ways with things from growing up, like PM being the only thing you were allowed to watch during dinner? I wrote an article here on Sofa Chip about all these old shows. Dick Van Dyke and Andy Griffith were on in reruns just before dinnertime. Our dog would jump on the footstool when he heard the whistle from Andy Griffith, as he knew my dad was due home any minute. ;-)

And thanks for stopping in. It means a lot to me. :D

Hey King Kelly. I Love Lucy is another oldie, but goodie. Do you think 40 to 50 years from now the sitcoms out now will hold up like these have? I think things like Cheers, Friends, Seinfeld will, but I'm not so sure about anything more recent.

And thanks for checking in here. :D :D

My favorite is The Brady Bunch. I don't watch it anymore, but it was my favorite growing up. I could tell you which episode it was before the credits finished.

How old does a show have to be before it's considered "classic?"

My faves, if they qualify, are The Love Boat and Fantasy Island. They were both on every Friday night (I think - could have been Saturdays) and I got to stay up late and watch them with my mom. I have Gopher's autograph in my wallet.

First of all, I think shows from the late 70s can definitely be considered classic. Secondly, the amusing pat to me isn' that you obtained Gopher's autograph, but that you still carry it in your wallet. Was that before or after he became a politician?
